University of Basrah organizes a discussion session on Holocene deposits in Muthanna Governorate

University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on Holocene Deposits in Muthanna Governorate
The Geology Department at the College of Science, University of Basra, held a seminar on the sedimentary and mineralogical characteristics of Holocene deposits in Muthanna Governorate, southern Iraq.
The seminar aimed to reconstruct the environmental changes recorded in the clastic deposits and to identify the factors controlling their distribution with depth.
The seminar was presented by master's student Fatima Kareem Hamel under the supervision of Professor Dr. Muhannad H. Al-Jaberi. It covered the study area, its objectives, and methodology, including 17 sediment samples from three sites along the Nasiriyah Highway and its extension within Muthanna Governorate. The samples were analyzed for grain size distribution and minerals (using X-ray diffraction XRD), as well as organic carbon and light metals.
