College of Science organizes a seminar on bioremediation using bacteria

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled "Bioremediation of Chicken Feathers Using Keratinase-Producing Bacteria"

The seminar, in which the student Nour Mahmoud Ahmed lectured, aims to isolate bacteria that produce the keratinase enzyme from soils containing poultry waste and use them in feather treatment as well as converting them into high nutritional value livestock feed.

The seminar addressed the environmental impact of feather waste from poultry farms and the traditional methods used to dispose of them and their negative aspects.

The seminar recommended the possibility of recycling feathers into valuable materials in livestock feed and using them in the production of organic fertilizer, biogas and organic detergents.
