The University of Basra participated in the World University Games 2023, which is hosted by the city of Ekaterinburg in Russia through an official delegation headed by the vice-rector and dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Falah Hassan Shari, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Mazen al-hawaz, Dr. Naeem Sabah and Dr. Hussein al-Nour, as well as the training staff from the Faculty of physical education and sports sciences.

The tournament was launched with the participation of most universities in the world, including the University of Basra, which represented Iraq in the tournament.

Shari stressed that the tournament includes 14 types of different sports, and Iraq participated in six types, including futsal, basketball, badminton, boxing, taekwondo and judo.
