A seminar on environmental factors and Artemisia

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the impact of environmental factors on the distribution and spread of Artemisia in the southern desert in Basra Governorate.

The seminar, which was lectured by graduate student Haneen Faisal Tawyah, aims to study the wormwood plant and its presence in some places in the southern desert only.

The episode dealt with plant density and its relationship with soil moisture and salinity in most of the study stations and its use as a bioaccumulator in the environment.

The seminar recommended spreading environmental awareness and culture in order to preserve plant biodiversity, provide natural reserves for plants, and establish sand quarries or sanitary landfill areas and waste dumping.
