The College of Science organizes a seminar on the isolation and evaluation of bacteria from wastewater

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the isolation and evaluation of bacteria from hospital wastewater to remove pharmaceutical compounds by constructed wetlands.

The seminar, which was lectured by the master's student, Noor Kazem Jabr, aims to reveal the highest concentrations of medicinal and personal care compounds in hospital wastewater and the Shatt al-Arab River, isolate and identify bacteria from wastewater, and determine the performance of a lab-scale constructed wetlands in phytoremediation of ibuprofen.

The workshop dealt with testing the ability of bacteria to resist pharmaceuticals and then treat the water in environmentally friendly ways.

The workshop recommended establishing wetland systems in the hospital with ornamental plants for treatment and aesthetics.
