A Ph. D thesis at the faculty of science at the University of Basrah discussed (Distribution, Sources of normal alkane and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in some soils of Basrah province and their risk assessment) by (Fadya Mushtaq Saleem). The study aims to assess the hydrocarbon in soils. The study included determination of normal alkane and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and calculating of toxic equivalent quotients to evaluate their risk. The study concluded that the soils polluted with hydrocarbon and recommended the calculation of the toxic equivalence quotient in industrial areas and increase environmental awareness
