The University of Basrah organizes a seminar entitled (Cancer and The Tumor suppresser genes)

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Cancer and The Tumor suppresser genes) by the graduate student (Anwar Noori Ayoob).The study aims To clarify the role of cancer-suppressing genes in stopping the development of tumors in the body. The study included an introduction to cancer and the most important features and characteristics of cancer cells. The study showed how normal cells turn into tumour cells by the influence of chemicals, radiation and carcinogens, in addition to the role of viruses in normal cells and their transformation into cancerous cells. The study also clarified the tumor suppressor genes and their work in suppressing the tumor in the body. The most important tumor suppressor genes are P53, RB, BRCA2, and BRCA1, as well as the role of these genes in mutations. The study clarified the main types of cancer and their locations in the body, and the risk factors that were mentioned. A statistic for the year 2021 was also mentioned, showing the number of new cases of male and female patients with the disease, and the death rate for both sexes.
