Dr.Weddad M. Taher a teaching staff member at the Faculty of Science, Department of Ecology at the University of Basra, participated in a workshop on the deterioration of biodiversity in the East Hammar Marsh, its causes and treatments, which was held in the Department of Ecology at the Faculty of Science. The participation included a lecture entitled the impact of some environmental variables on the reality of aquatic plants in the eastern Hammar marsh.
The lecture included a statement of the importance of aquatic plants and their role in managing wetlands and marshes, reviving and sustaining rivers and water bodies, their geographical distribution and their living mass, and how they directly affect the water system and its chemistry and indirectly on changing biological diversity by creating different environments and explaining the most important factors affecting them, including salinity and low levels of water.
