A master thesis defense discusses the biological activity for some Trimethoprim complexes

The department of Chemistry, college of science has discussed a mater thesis entitled: Preperation, identification and study the biological activity of some Trimethoprim complexes.

The scientist, Mr. Hasan Hameed Radhi has explained that this study included the preparation of four new ligands as derivatives of the antibiotic Trimethoprim (TMP) from the reaction of Galli acid with thiony chloride to prepare carboxylic acid chloride, which has a high ability to interact with the amine groups present in TMP..

The study has concluded the following:

1. Through the synthetic formulas of the prepared derivatives.  Some of them behave as multi-age Clicands and their number is according to the groups that contain them

2. Some of the prepared ligands and their complexes were soluble in water. Which helped in studying it spectroscopically as well as benefiting from this formula in studying its biological activity.

3. This study showed the thermal stability of the prepared compounds.  Which helped in storing it under thermal conditions at a temperature of (60°C)

4. The prepared compounds (L1, L4, C2, C10) have high biological activity, so they can be used in the medical field through their effect on inhibiting the growth of types of bacteria used in this study.
