The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Physiological study on the role of Visfatin hormone on lipid profile and glucose level in obesity women) by the graduate student (MSc. Zahraa Mahmoud Hussain). The study aims to measure the concentrations of visfatin and some other hormones that are secreted from adipose tissue in obese women as well as in women with diabetes and compare them with the control group. The study included identifying the composition of visfatin hormone and the most important physiological functions of the hormone in the body. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the concentrations of the visfatin in people with diabetes and obesity when compared with the control group, as a compensatory mechanism for the decrease in the action of insulin. The study recommended conducting more studies on the relationship of the hormone with diabetes for both types 1 and type 2, as well as conducting more studies on the possibility of controlling the secretion of these hormones and thus controlling some of the metabolic disorders resulting from them.
