The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Cytological and Histopathological study of some herbs extract of Cichrium intybus on some different types of normal and transformed cell line in vivo and in vitro). by the graduate student Zeyad Abdulkadhim Mazyed The study aims to demonstrate the effect of the different extracts isolated from the Chicory plant (Cichorium intybus) on different types of normal and cancerous cells in vivo and in vitro and included Isolation of the crude extracts of leaves, stems and roots in addition to isolating and extracting glycosides from leaves. The phenolic content of the leaves, stems and roots was studied, as well as the study of the antioxidant capacity of all extracts. the leaves and glycosides F1 recorded the highest phenolic content and antioxidant ability when compared to other extracts. the effect of these extracts were tested on four cell lines in vitro (Vero, MCF-7, CAL-51 and 4T1 cell lines) and all showed high inhibitory effects on the cells at different concentration depending on the concentration and duration of exposure. The effect of leaf extract and F2 glycosides on cell death also was studied. Programmed and its effect on the cytoskeleton of MCF-7 cells, as well as the effect of crude leaf extract on mammary gland cancer implanted in female Balb / c laboratory mice, which led to a reduction in tumor size after the third week of treatment in ratio 90% compared to the control group, as well as preventing the spread of cancer cells to other tissues and organs (metastasis) when compared with the control sample, and the study was recommended By conducting many types of research to find out the mechanisms of the action of these extracts on cells from a molecular and cellular point of view, and using them in meals as one of the important vegetables because they contain many phenolics and antioxidant compounds, which play an important role in clearing the body of free radicals whose accumulation leads to damage to cells and may lead to the occurrence of cancer.
