The college of science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled environmental assessment of hydrocarbons and trace elements in pulpy sediments taken from the Tigris River in Maysan, Iraq. Presented by the researcher (Altaf Rahim schnichel) within the framework of scientific efforts to study environmental pollution in sedimentary water systems and its impact on the ecosystem and human health.
The seminar aimed to discuss the impact of increasing human activities such as industrial and agricultural drainage and oil extraction on the accumulation of pollutants in the Tigris river sediments, and the role of geological and hydrological factors in controlling the transmission and distribution of these pollutants in the aquatic environment, and their impact on the quality of sediments.
The importance of the study in providing reference data that can be used in future studies to monitor environmental changes and develop strategies to reduce pollution in the river system was also discussed. The seminar dealt with the assessment of pollution levels by analyzing the concentrations of hydrocarbons and trace elements in the core sediments using advanced techniques, while analyzing their relationship with the geological characteristics of the area to assess its environmental and health effects.
