The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar titled(Effect of reactive compounds isolated from two mediccal plants on some organs of experimental rats treated with decadron drug) by the graduate student (Zahra’a Abd Alreda Jabbar).
The study aims to extract and isolate the effective compounds and determine the protective role of plant extracts used in the treatment of diabetes and determine the dose that causes diabetes in the induction of lab animals from the drug decadron on the tissues of the liver, kidneys and pancreas.. and included introduction to decadron and medicinal plants used in the study that have anti-diabetic properties caused by decadron. The study referred to the results of the chemical study to detect the active compounds present in the plant extracts in addition to some phenotypic changes in some visceral organs (liver and kidney). The study also included the method of inducing diabetes caused by decadron. The study indicated changes in the tissues of the liver, pancreas and kidneys after inducing diabetes caused by decadron and comparing them with the protective role of volatile oils and alkaloids. Finally, the study referred to the weight changes in the infected groups and those treated with volatile oils and alkaloids and the biochemical changes in the levels of glucose, insulin, lipid levels and the biological activity of liver enzymes. And the study was recommended: Conducting experiments to evaluate the effect of the volatile oils of E. cardamomum seeds and alkaloids of T. foenum-graecum seeds on diabetic retinopathy caused by decadron and conducting some experiments on Alzheimer's disease associated with diabetes using the above extracts to reduce the disease and tissue changes that occur due to taking decadron for a long period and using the volatile oil and alcoholic extract as a nutritional supplement to reduce the risks of treatment with decadron and control metabolic syndrome and also using different doses of decadron and studying its effect on different organs such as the digestive system, lungs, brain and heart and isolating some active compounds, especially 1,8-cineole and showing its effect in treating diabetes and reducing blood glucose levels.
