A lecturer at the College of Science receives the gold medal at the Iraqi Inventors Exhibition
Professor Dr. Najwa Muhammad Jamil Ali, a lecturer in the Department of Biology - College of Science, received the gold medal at the Third Applied Conference afor Patents - in Middle Technology University , which was held in cooperation with the Technical Institute - Baqubah , with wide participation from Iraqi inventors .
And Dr. Najwa that his participation was in the patent entitled Invitroproduction of carotenoids as an antifungal using two strains of pigmented yeasts in Iraq cooperated with Professor Abdullah Hamoud Al-Saadoun , which included the isolation, purification and genetic identification of yeasts from the soil and the purification of two carotenoids and testing their antifungal effectiveness. They had a high inhibitory effect on clinical isolates , especially those resistant to antifungals.
It was considered one of the first studies in Iraq on the use of purified beta-carotene from colored yeasts as antifungals , and thus this innovation is considered one of the new drugs to control fungal strains resistant to antibiotics. She was also honored with a medal from the Iraqi Inventors Association for her scientific efforts.
