The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (The biofilm formation genes and antibiotic resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii) by the graduate student Fatima Waleed Abdul-Ameer. The study aims to highlight the characteristics of Acinetobacter baumannii, as a Multi Drug Resistant bacterium, and its potential to cause nosocomial infections due to its ability to form biofilms,‏its easy spread in dry,humid environments and hospital equipment, and detection the correlation between the biofilm formation genes and antibiotic resistance and included a discussion of the various mechanisms that contribute to the bacterium’s antibiotic resistance, including alterations in antibiotic target sites and drug efflux pumps.
