The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a scientific workshop on fish mortality in the Iraqi marshes, the causes and proposed treatments.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the marsh environment and the causes of fish mortality.
The workshop, which was lectured by Dr. Najah Aboud Hussein in the Department of Ecology and Dr. Amjad Kazim Rasan, included defining the prevailing reduction conditions in the marshes, which leads to a lack of dissolved oxygen in the water and its impact on fish life.
The workshop recommended increasing water releases into the marshes, preventing the use of poisons in fishing, re-releasing native fish into the marshes, and preserving the marsh environment due to its national importance.
