A master's thesis in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra discussed the effectiveness of electrocoagulation in removing some petroleum compounds and heavy metals from industrial wastewater.
The thesis, presented by student Zahraa Asif Shaaban, aims to reduce the concentrations of petroleum compounds and heavy elements from polluted water and study the effect of operational factors such as electrolysis time, applied voltage difference and pH on removal efficiency.
The thesis recommended applying electrocoagulation technology in treating polluted water from all factories, power plants and refineries that dump liquid waste into nearby rivers and lakes
