The University of Basrah discussed entitled Isolation and identification of active pigments from some cyanobacteria of Iraqi environmental and Its nano application

A master's thesis dissertation defense was discussed in the College of Science at the University of Basrah entitled (Isolation and identification of active pigments from some cyanobacteria of Iraqi environmental and Its nano application) by the graduate student Mustafa hafeth Jasem and the number of its chapters Four the study aims.

The cyanobacterial strain has an industrial potential to produce phycoerythrin pigment because of its filamentous nature, and it is easier to harvest than the other unicellular cyanobacterium. Freezing - thawing method are found to be a better process than other chemical and mechanical processes of extraction of pigment. The phycobilin pigment (PBP), can be extracted with a number of buffers, and it was found the acetate buffer is best in extracting pigment. It is possible replace to industrial media (Ch-10D) the high cost with natural media (Pound water) the low cost, also it is content almost the essential nutritional ingredients needed algae. Study explanation, the stationary phase is best to extract phycoerythrin pigment in industrial media (Ch-10D). Purified phycoerythrin (NPs) appears to be in the shape of small spherical nanoparticle with a minimum and maximum size of nano-size ranging between (60-130) nm. The results explanation, relistening Staph. aureus bacteria against extracted pigment and all transactions (crude, pure extraction and NPs extraction), while effected Klebsiella pneumoniae against extracted pigment that isolation from blue-green algae O. Princeps. Appearance NPs pigment it is highly effective against cancer cells type breast cancer cell, and it was recorded IC50 was 57.3573.

The NPs and pure pigment were safety for using, where not recording any cytotoxicity against Red blood cells through the observer period.

The study recommended Conduct a comprehensive study of a number of algae and isolate the effective pigments from them. The present study demonstrated, that the local isolation of algae O. princeps, it is a raw material rich in studied pigments. Therefore, these isolates must be studied for their scientific and applied importing.
