A master's thesis at the college of science at the University of Basrah entitled detecting ancient rivers in the Zubair area west of Basra using remote sensing
The thesis presented by the student Mohammed Lazim gesture aims at a deeper understanding of the geological and cultural history of the study area in southwestern Iraq, and the study included exploring and studying ancient rivers and geological analysis using modern technologies such as remote sensing and artificial satellites and understanding the ancient water assets in the region, and how they affect the natural and cultural development of the region through the ages and then providing accurate knowledge about these resources. The study concluded the presence of ancient extinct aqueducts streams in various study areas while surfing enhanced satellite visuals, indicating the presence of ancient rivers that were discovered. The study recommended conducting comprehensive studies of each of the ancient rivers individually in Basra governorate, due to the fact that it contains many extinct rivers and the availability of abundant information that can be used. Researchers in the field of archeology and history specialists urged to conduct historical studies on the ancient rivers in Basra, due to the scarcity of studies in this aspect.
