Professor Dr. Najwa Muhammad Jameel Ali, teaching in the Department of Life Sciences - College of Science, won the gold medal at the First Applied Patents Conference and Exhibition - Basra, which was held in cooperation with the College of Veterinary Medicine - University of Basra, with wide participation from Iraqi inventors.

Dr. Najwa indicated that his participation was in the patent entitled (Isolation and diagnosis of two deadly toxins from soil yeasts in Iraq) obtained with Professor Dr. Adnan Issa Al-Badran and Professor Abdullah Hamoud Al-Sadoon, which included the isolation, purification and genetic diagnosis of yeasts from soil and purification of two toxins. It had a high inhibitory effect on clinical isolates, especially those resistant to antifungal and bacterial antifungals.

  It was considered one of the first studies in Iraq on the use of deadly toxins as antifungal and antibacterial agents, and thus this innovation is considered one of the new drugs to control antibiotic-resistant bacterial and fungal strains.

Professor Dr. Najwa Muhammad Jameel was also honored with a silver medal from the State of Kuwait at the Thirteenth International Patent Exhibition

In addition to honoring Uruk University - Baghdad for the same patent with a shield and a gold medal, and first place in the first international conference on patents for Uruk University
