A doctoral discussion at the University of Basrah entitled a comprehensive geological study of the formation of Dammam from a paleontological perspective

The Department of Earth Science at the College of Science organized a seminar entitled a comprehensive geological study of the Dammam Formation from the paleontological, sedimentological and sequential stratigraphic aspects in selected and exposed wells from central and southern Iraq. The seminar, in which the researcher Falah Hassan Hussein lectured, aims to classify the benthic fura, as well as a sedimentary study of the formation, along with identifying sedimentary cycles. The study included a stratigraphic description of the study sites, identifying the biological zones, and drawing a sedimentary model of the Dammam Formation from the Karbala region to the Basra region. The results of the preliminary interpretation concluded that the formation was deposited in a shallow environment within AP10 (pg20), which was identified for the first time in Iraq within the Dammam Formation. The age of the formation within the study area was determined from the beginning to the end of the early Eocene.
