Discussion of a master's thesis at the University of Basra on the assessment of environmental pollution in the waters and sediments of the Alizz River.

The Department of geoscience at the Faculty of science at the University of Basra discussed a master's thesis entitled (Assessment of environmental pollution by heavy elements in the waters and sediments of the Ezz River north of Basra city) for the student Shatha Abdul Hassan schnichel

The results reached (The highest total organic carbon values were recorded during the summer season, while the lowest values were observed during the autumn season. The study area consists of greasy clay sediments. According to the geochemical accumulation factor values, the sediments in the Al-Ezz River are heavily polluted with lead and cadmium, moderately polluted to non-polluted with copper, and non-polluted with manganese, zinc, and cobalt. The environment is moderately polluted with cobalt). The study recommends (Continuous water quality monitoring, conducting more pollution studies, raising environmental awareness among citizens, requiring oil companies to treat their waste before disposing of it into the environment, and establishing a database to support environmental authorities in making informed and effective decisions)
