A master's thesis was discussed in the Ecology Department at the College of Science at Basrah University entitled (Evaluating and Improving Shatt Al-Arab River Using Ecofriendly Methods) by master student Lina Alaa Mosa.

The study aims to Evaluate the physicochemical characteristics of Shatt Al-Arab River near some point sources pollution and to examine the efficiency of the submerged plant Ceratophyllum demersum and Potamogeton crispus used in laboratory conditions aqueous solutions with specific concentrations to remove some heavy metals Boron, Barium, Strontium and Iron.
