The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Molecular investigation of CRISPR system role in some virulence factors of Escherichia coli isolated from Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)) By the Ph.D. student Ahmed Jassim Mohammed and the purpose was to clarify the role CRISPR system in some isolates bacteria E. coli that show antibiotic resistance, CRISPR discovered in 1987 by Ishino and colleagues and CRISPR consider repeat arrangement in iap gene E. coli. These repeats arrangements have been discovered in many prokaryotes such as bacteria and archaea CRISPR/Cas systems act as the adaptive immune system in both archaea bacteria and eubacteria and this name (CRISPR) is derived from clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats and this pair with CRISPR-associated (Cas) proteins. CRISPR-Cas system has precise specificity act on resistance bacteria where can select only bacteria that have resistance gene of antibiotic of another bacteria population where these bacterial population transform by phage or plasmid contain CRISPR-Cas9 can targeting special sequence that found in resistant bacteria.
