A seminar entitled (Evaluation of petrophysical characteristics and formation pressure of the Upper Shale Member of Zubair Formation in Shuaiba Dome of Zubair oilfield, southern Iraq). Hold at the College of Science, Geology Department. The presenter Laith Adel Mahdi demonstrates the most important objectives in this study, the top part of the Zubair formation was evaluated. The evaluation includes petrophysical interpretation and constructing a three-dimensional geological model to check the feasibility of exploiting the reservoir in the future. On the other hand, the formation pressure and the fracture pressure were estimated in this study for their significant role in determining the best drilling mud density, consequently the best hydrostatic pressure for well control to avoid serious drilling problems that could cost money and endanger human life. The results showed that the Upper Shale Member in the study area has three reservoir units, namely Reservoir Units (RU) 1, 2 and 3. RU 2 showed the best porosity and hydrocarbon saturation, while RU1 showed the worst characteristics. RU 3 showed good porosity, but high-water saturation. Concerning the formation and fracture pressures, abnormally high formation pressure was found in Tanuma Formation in the studied wells. In Ahmadi Formation the overpressure was located just in the well ZB-205, while it was found in Zubair formation in the wells ZB-205 and ZB-246.
