The Department of Chemistry at the College of science organized a seminar about the DNA binding of some mixed ligand complexes of Copper, Nickel and Zinc. The M.Sc. student (Adyan Ali Yaseen) has clarified that Copper, Nickel and Zinc mixed ligands complexes containing 1,10- phenanthroline or 2,2′-Bipyridyl based on sulfanilic acid  were prepared .

All the complexes were characterized by FTIR, HNMR, 13CNMR, and CHNS. Complex B1 is well characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography.  The Spectroscopic results revealed that the binding of DNA with complexes are intercalation interaction and viscosity results consisting with spectroscopic results , The binding strength of the complexes was evaluated by calculating the binding constant Kb. Where the complex B3 is the complex that strong bind to DNA because it has the higher lipophilic properties compared to other complexes. While the complex B1 has weak interaction because the presence six water molecules that increases the hydrophilic properties which lead to minimize the affinity between the complex and DNA.

As recommendations the results can reinforced by proceed more experiment on the obtained complexes regarding their activities toward DNA-cleavage and some antitumor type cell line
