The lecturers in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra, Dr. Dunya Ali Hussain and Inaas A. Mahdi, participated in the Second International Conference on Environment and Marine Sciences, which was held at the College of Science.
The participation included a lecture entitled Phytoremediation of nickel and lead using Najas marina L.
The lecture aimed to Knowing the ability of Najas marina L to remove nickel and lead from its aqueous solutions in single experiments and measuring some toxic effects. The lecture included measuring the efficiency of removal, accumulation, tolerance, growth rate, total chlorophyll and protein content. The study recommended conducting other laboratory experiments to calculate the removal efficiency and study the toxicity of other heavy metals on the plant.
