The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled Cytotoxicity of amygdalin extracted from apricot seeds on MCF-7 and Vero cell lines in vitro for postgraduate student (Master student), Zainab Safaa Abd. The study aimed to chemically extract amygdalin from apricot seeds, test the cytotoxicity of amygdalin extracted on two types of cell lines, one MCF-7 carcinoma and the other Vero, in addition to the biochemical and phenotypic diagnosis of cell death. The study included isolating amygdalin from apricot seeds, then its purity was examined by TLC, ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectra, then the cytotoxicity of the extracted amygdalin was tested using MTT assay, and then cell death was detected using light and fluorescent microscopy after staining the treated cells. The study concluded that the extracted amygdalin has effect on the growth of the MCF-7 cancer cell line. It also has an obvious inhibitory effect on the cell lines and causes cell death through both apoptosis and necrosis
