The Department of Chemistry at the College of Science organized a seminar entitled: Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Activity Study of Some Organotellurium Compounds Derived from Pyrazole. The M.Sc. student Amal Hassan has clarified that Eleven novel organotellurium compounds were synthesized, including a new ketone alkyl tellurocyanate that was used to make a substituted pyrazole containing tellurium by reacting it with hydrazine derivatives, latter, A new series of organo-tellurium compounds with the pyrazole ring with the formula ArTeX3, Ar2Te2, Ar2Te, and Ar2TeX2 was created. The prepared compounds were diagnosed using spectroscopic methods such as mass spectrometry, proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-rays. The prepared compounds were tested for biological activity against two types of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and the results showed that they had a higher biological activity than amoxicillin.
