The University of Basrah organizes a seminar entitled (About the drought stress of palm trees)

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Study the  effect of cultivar and drought stress induced -deficit irrigation in physical and chemical properties and protein pattern in date palm Phoenix dactylifera L. CV. Sayer and Hillawi) by the graduate student Ali Abd UL-Rahman Fadhil The study aims to study of the response of date palms of Al-Sayer and Al-Hallawi cultivars to drought periods and l irrigation  deficit and their effect on the quality characteristics of the fruits.  and included Studying the effect of irrigation deficit on the growth curve of fruits in terms of weight, size, length and diameter of the fruits, and the physical and chemical characteristics of fruits in ripening stages, The enzymatic activity of a number of oxidation and reduction enzymes, ripening enzymes and some chemical components of leaves and fruits was measured  . The the protein pattern in the date palm leaves, and anatomical characteristics of the date palm leaves of the two cultivars was studied .
The study was recommended  to the necessity and importance of irrigating palm orchards to ensure the production of commercially marketable fruits and to avoid neglecting irrigation because of its negative effects on growth and production.
