The college  of science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on the mineralization and geochemistry of the sand units of the makdadiya formation for selected sites east of Wasit governorate
The seminar aimed to determine the mineralogical and geochemical properties of sandstone in the makdadiya formation in Wasit governorate, to determine the origin and source of sediments, assess the severity of chemical weathering, and conclude the ancient climatic conditions and tectonic environment of the source area. The seminar, in which the student of studies Nour Matouk attended, included the study of the mineralogical, Petrographic and geochemical properties of sand units of the muqdadiya formation in selected locations east of Wasit governorate, through the analysis of grain size, the study of light and heavy minerals, XRD, XRF and ICP-MS tests. The study is aimed at determining the source of the sediment, assessing the mineral maturity and severity of weathering, interpreting the depositional and tectonic conditions that contributed to the formation of sand rocks, depending on the integration of laboratory results and explanatory schemes.
