Ph. D thesis at the faculty of Ability of bacteria for biodegradation of microplastics at the University of Basraha College of Science, and showed the researcher's thesis (Ansam Jasim Mohammad). Thesis aims to investigate the ability of local bacteria to biodegrade microplastics and concluded efficiency of local bacterial isolates in biodegradation and revealed the presence of different types of microplastics, mainly polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS). It also demonstrated the biodegradation efficiency of some bacterial isolates, with Ectopseudomonas showing the highest efficiency. FTIR, EDX, GC-MS, and SEM techniques were used to confirm the chemical and surface changes resulting from the biodegradation process. and recommended utilizing local bacteria to help reduce microplastic pollution in aquatic environments.
