A doctoral thesis at the Department of Ecology, College of Science, University of Basrah, investigated the spatial and temporal assessment of air pollutants emitted from major industrial activities in Basrah Governorate, southern Iraq.

The thesis, presented by student Abbas Thajeel Obeid, aimed to evaluate the levels of air pollutants resulting from industrial activities and to determine their spatial distribution.

The study involved monitoring air pollutants at five industrial sites and analyzing the data statistically and spatially using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial interpolation methods.

The study recommended continuous air quality monitoring and the strengthening of control measures for major pollutant emissions, alongside ensuring the periodic maintenance of emission control systems.

It is worth noting that this marks the first doctoral thesis defense held within the department.
