University of Basrah Organizes Lecture on Phosgene Toxicity Using DFT

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a lecture titled (The Atomic Mechanisms of Phosgene Toxicity Using Density Functional Theory (DFT)), delivered by Assistant Professor Ikram Kamal Jassim.

The lecture aimed to elucidate the mechanisms by which phosgene gas binds to heme proteins using quantum calculations, and to study the effect of solvents and electric fields on the binding strength and toxicity of the gas. It also reviewed the results of UV-Vis spectroscopy simulations and their potential application in developing more efficient diagnostic tools and sensors, thereby contributing to research on chemical safety and medical applications.
