The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a seminar on evaluating pollutants emitted from certain industrial activities in Basra Governorate and methods for treating these emissions.
The seminar, presented by Mr. Abbas Thajil Obaid, a faculty member and doctoral student in the Department of Ecology, aimed to assess air pollutants in industrial areas of Basra Governorate, identify the characteristics and sources of particulate matter, evaluate the effectiveness of emission reduction technologies, and propose effective treatment methods to improve air quality.
The seminar addressed the measurement of particulate and gaseous pollutant concentrations at five monitoring stations and studied the impact of climatic factors on pollutant concentrations.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including establishing a continuous system for monitoring air quality and industrial emissions, upgrading and improving the efficiency of emissions treatment systems, and increasing green belts around industrial areas and facilities.
