The College of Science Organizes a Workshop on Ultraviolet Radiation and Its Effects

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a workshop on the impact of ultraviolet radiation on the distribution and productivity of living organisms.

The workshop aimed to explain environmental management strategies for reducing ozone emissions, protecting vegetation, and mitigating the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation on living organisms.

The workshop, presented by lecturer Hadeer Hassan Ali from the Department of Ecology, included a presentation on ultraviolet radiation as an influential environmental factor with both beneficial and harmful effects. Increased exposure poses an environmental and health risk and affects animal behaviors, from foraging to reproduction.

The workshop recommended strengthening monitoring and protecting sensitive environments, supporting research on adaptation mechanisms, protecting the ozone layer, and adopting policies that reduce the exposure of ecosystems to ultraviolet radiation.
