The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a workshop on fungal dyes and their environmental applications.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Abrar Amir Thahir from the Department of Ecology, aimed to highlight fungal dyes as environmentally friendly bio-based compounds, reduce reliance on synthetic dyes with their negative impacts, and review their applications in various environmental fields.
The workshop addressed the most important uses of fungal dyes in the food, textile, and cosmetic industries, their role as antioxidants and antimicrobials, and their potential use in medical and environmental applications.
The workshop recommended expanding research related to fungal dyes and investing in them in environmental and industrial fields, given their safe and sustainable properties, and encouraging their use as environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional chemical dyes.
