The College of Science at University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled  A Study of Yeasts Contaminating Cellular Phones, presented by postgraduate student Raghad Adnan Karim, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Najwa Mohammed Jameel. The study aims to investigate the types of yeasts that may be present on the surfaces of mobile phones, as they are among the most frequently used tools in daily life. It also seeks to identify the sources of these contaminants and the factors that contribute to their growth and spread, in addition to evaluating the potential health risks associated with them. The study included the analysis of samples collected from mobile phones, the identification of yeast species using laboratory techniques, as well as examining their biological characteristics, their adaptability to different environmental conditions, and their possible impact on human health.
