A Master's Thesis in the College of Science Examines Water Quality Indicators and Enhances Water Management in the Shatt al-Arab

A Master's thesis in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, explored the development of water quality indicators to enhance water management in the central part of the Shatt al-Arab.

The thesis, submitted by student Nuha Ali Mohsen, primarily aimed to develop monitoring and evaluation tools for water resources to strengthen their environmental management.

The thesis included the use and updating of the Shatt al-Arab Water Quality Indicator (Moyle, 2023) to assess the water quality of its central section, as well as identifying natural and human-caused environmental pollutants.

The thesis concluded that there is a clear disturbance in the ecosystem of the central part of the Shatt al-Arab due to the influence of several prevailing climatic factors in the region.

The thesis recommended the establishment of specialized programs for the management of the Shatt al-Arab's ecosystem and the development of urgent plans to halt the degradation of the Shatt al-Arab basin.
