The Department of ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a seminar entitled “Assessing Heavy Metal Pollution in the Shatt al-Arab Waterway Using the NPI and HPI Indices.”

The seminar, presented by Master's student Zahraa Salah Fadhil, aimed to analyze the temporal and spatial distribution of heavy metals and assess water quality according to local and international standards.

The seminar addressed the most prominent sources of pollution and their environmental impacts, highlighting the deterioration of water quality according to Iraqi standards, in contrast to relative stability for irrigation purposes.

The study recommended strengthening environmental monitoring and reducing polluting discharges.
