The Faculty of science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on (morphometric and geomorphological analysis of the shuwaija River drainage basins using remote sensing and GIS technologies in eastern Iraq).
The seminar delivered by researcher Zeinab Adel aimed at analyzing the characteristics of drainage basins through morphometric indicators of various dimensions and geomorphological units, as well as highlighting the most prominent natural and human hazards facing the region.
The seminar included a detailed review of the results of the study, which dealt with the analysis of five drainage basins: (Mandaly, Torsaq, Shosharin, Galal Badra, said Gazal), using modern technologies and the digital elevation model (DEM) within the ArcGIS program. At its conclusion, the symposium stressed the importance of the region in terms of water, and the need to adopt scientific procedures to reduce risks, which contributes to achieving sustainable development and promoting the safe use of resources.
