The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Unraveling Celiac Disease: From Pathogenesis to Molecular Biomarkers) by the Ph.D. student Saad Qasim Dhuaif, under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Maha Khalaf Zukhair Al-Mishry and Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr. Haider Mohsen Jarallah.

The study aims to comprehensively investigate the immunological and molecular mechanisms driving Celiac Disease, bridging the gap between clinical symptoms and mucosal reality.

The study included mapping comprehensive cytokine profiles to pinpoint active inflammatory pathways, assessing intestinal barrier function to understand permeability and architectural recovery, analyzing gene expression at the mucosal level to identify underlying cellular behaviors, and comparing patient cohorts on a strict Gluten-Free Diet versus newly diagnosed patients.
