The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a workshop entitled "Optimal Use of Statistical Programs in Environmental Data Analysis."
The workshop aimed to introduce attendees to scientific methods for designing environmental experiments, methods for collecting and organizing scientific research data, and the application of statistical tests that meet the required criteria for obtaining and interpreting results.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Makia Mahlal Khalaf, a faculty member in the Department of Ecology, included an introduction to data design and analysis, how to select the appropriate statistical analysis for environmental experiments, methods for implementing the experiment, data collection methods, and the importance of avoiding bias to ensure that samples are representative of the study population.
The workshop recommended the importance of outlining the statistical design and analyses of the study before approving the study proposal and before commencing experiments. It also emphasized the necessity of establishing a reference location to represent the control sample in field environmental measurements.
