The College of Science organized a seminar on developing materials for treating organic pollutants

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, held a seminar on removing organic pollutants from wastewater using environmentally friendly methods. The seminar focused on developing activated carbon-based adsorbent materials derived from plastic waste to treat organic pollutants in water.

The seminar, presented by Master's student Ayat Salah Mahlahal, aimed to develop hybrid materials reinforced with nano-oxides and improve their efficiency in removing organic pigments from water. This approach seeks to create environmentally friendly solutions that combine plastic waste reduction with wastewater treatment.

The seminar also addressed the reusability of the adsorbent materials, highlighting their antibacterial activity and suitability for sustainable environmental treatment applications.

The seminar recommended using materials with stable nano-propagation properties and high efficiency in removing organic and inorganic pollutants, making them a promising option for wastewater treatment and reducing environmental pollution.
