The College of Science Organizes a Seminar on Halophytes and Soil Remediation

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a seminar on halophytes as a biological alternative for remediating polluted soils. The seminar, presented by Master's student Ayad Mard Jaber, aimed to identify halophytes found in environments polluted with hydrocarbons as bioaccumulators of these compounds.

The study covered the definition of halophytes, their types, and their mechanisms of salinity tolerance.

The study also addressed identifying sources of soil pollution, how plants can be used in phytoremediation, and the mechanisms plants employ to eliminate pollutants, specifically hydrocarbon pollutants.
