The president of the Association of Iraqi geologists, Professor Saad Obaid, visited the Department of geoscience at the college of Science – University of Basrah, as part of his field tour aimed at enhancing communication with academics and geologists in the provinces.

During the visit, the president of the union met with the head of the department and a number of teachers and researchers, where he stressed the importance of the scientific and professional role of the Department of Geoscience in supporting geological work in Iraq, stressing the need for active participation in the upcoming elections of the Union of geologists because of its direct impact on the promotion of union work and the defense of the rights of geologists. The head of the syndicate also called on the Department's teaching staff and graduates to update their data and participate widely in the elections, stressing that the next stage requires concerted efforts to advance the reality of the profession and enhance the presence of geologists in national projects. At the end of the visit, the head of the Department of geoscience expressed her thanks and appreciation for this visit, appreciating the keenness of the Union of geologists to communicate directly with academic institutions and support scientific cadres.
