The Department of geoscience at the college of Science discussed a master's thesis entitled (sedimentary and mineralogical study of the formation of the Omar River in the ratawi oil field, southern Iraq) to the researcher (Nahla Hamza Abbas) . The study included (interpretation of open well probes, description of the available core rocks of the Omar River formation for selected wells from the field, in addition to amputation and Karafi examination of rock slices for the purpose of determining the abrasions and depositional environment, knowledge of the metamorphic processes prevailing in the formation rocks, conducting laboratory analyzes and tests with modern devices to study the mineralogical and geochemical properties of the formation).
