The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a seminar on the environmental survey of ground beetles and testing their bioaccumulation capacity for heavy metals in certain areas of Basra Governorate.
The seminar, presented by student Ghadeer Saad Nasser, addressed the recording of nine species of ground beetles in four areas of Basra and the bioaccumulation capacity of Adesmia beetles for heavy metals such as zinc, copper, cadmium, and iron.
The seminar also discussed environmental factors and their correlation with bioaccumulation rates.
The study recommended conducting extensive taxonomic and environmental studies to identify ground beetles in other areas of Basra Governorate, given their high diversity and their potential use as a biological indicator of pollution in industrial and agricultural areas.
