The College of Science Organizes a Workshop on Heavy Metals: The Silent Danger

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a workshop entitled "Heavy Metals: The Silent Danger in Our Environment."

The workshop aimed to introduce these metals, their classification, their sources, and the reasons for their danger to humans and the environment.

The workshop, presented by Ms. Inas Awni Mahdi, a lecturer in the Department Ecology, included an explanation of the most prominent health and environmental risks associated with the accumulation of heavy metals. It also reviewed traditional and modern methods for treating them, including bioremediation, which is an environmentally friendly and low-cost technique for reducing the concentrations of these pollutants in water and soil.

The workshop recommended the need to intensify efforts for the continuous monitoring of heavy metal levels in the environment, to activate environmental legislation to reduce their emissions, and to continue implementing environmentally friendly technologies to mitigate their harmful effects.
