The college of science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on the method of extracting and preparing fossils from sediments . The seminar aimed to introduce researchers and graduate students to the methods used in the laboratory to prepare microfossils of all kinds. The seminar in which the teacher attended included M.Dr.Rasha Abdul Sattar keshish-m.Dr.Saba Qasim kalkhan introduction to microfossils explained that fossils are the remains or traces of microorganisms preserved in sedimentary rocks, such as diatoms, pollen grains, fruminifera, ostracoda and others .They are considered one of the most important evidence in the study of the history of the Earth and ancient environments because they help to determine the age of geological layers and explain ancient climatic conditions. Methods of their extraction and separation from sediments by physical and chemical methods were also shown, such as washing with water, using acids to remove undesirable substances, and then sieving or centrifugation to obtain pure samples. And then conduct an examination under a microscope to identify the species and study their shape and microstructure.
